February 13, 2024 – CARLSBAD, California – The Sporting Goods Division of Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. is proud to announce a partnership with world-renowned putting instructor Stephen Sweeney. The advisory agreement includes design consultation, global image rights, and cooperative cross-channel campaign activation in support of Mitsubishi Golf’s putter products.
“Over the last few years, we’ve been working diligently to develop more putter structures as internal testing continues to confirm the overall performance potential,” noted Mark Gunther, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing. “Having access to Stephen’s expertise will certainly be important in the immediate for our current products, but truly invaluable as we develop the next generation of high-performance composite putter shafts.”
Originally from Donegal, Ireland, Sweeney’s career spans over 18 years and includes work with many of golf’s most notable names. Having intently studied both the putting techniques of legendary players as well as research on biomechanics and psychology, Sweeney’s coaching methodologies in the putting discipline focus on key fundamentals like grip, alignment, posture, and proper equipment fitting in conjunction with cultivating mental resilience, confidence, and focus.
“I couldn’t be more excited for this partnership,” said Sweeney. “More and more golfers are understanding that successful putting really requires not only the right foundational skills but also the right mindset and the right equipment. As it relates to shaft innovation, the record speaks for itself; Mitsubishi Golf is an industry leader and proves it every week on tour.”
Sweeney and Mitsubishi Golf initiated the partnership officially in Early 2024 and plan to release an upcoming video series later this season featuring his coaching insights and the benefits of composite putter shafts.
